WELCOME Welcome to the Turnpike Gallery Welcome to the Turnpike Gallery guide, including information about exhibitions, activities, events and resources at the Turnpike Centre in Leigh. The Turnpike Gallery programme provides visitors with the chance to engage with an exciting range of visual arts and participate in hands- on activities. There are also opportunities in the Library for adults, children and young people, and information services around heritage, local history, health, reading and the People's Network. This year's Open exhibition received its highest ever number of submissions, ' it was lovely to see my very first painting in the exhibition', and Art Factory: Sense- ation! was ' really fun for all ages'. The Autumn/ Winter programme includes photographs by camera clubs from across the borough; paintings by Wigan artist James Lawrence Isherwood; and sculptures and paintings by two emerging young artists, Halima Cassell and Zarah Hussain. We look forward to seeing you soon. Exhibitions by local artists and community groups can be seen in the Stairs Gallery, Derby Room and Craft Showcases. Arts Active continues to provide a monthly artist- led session for children aged 5- 12, and for older children we're introducing Crafty Corner, a regular artist- led session for 11- 16s. Look out for Crafty Corner in the Children's Library from September. Craft Circle offers a popular monthly meeting place for anyone with an interest in crafts, and we continue to build on the success of our adult workshops by introducing some new courses to the autumn/ winter programme. School and community groups are welcome to visit the Gallery and visits can be arranged through the gallery office. If you would like to be on our free mailing list, please contact us and we can send you up to date information and invites to events. 03
